Simulation of contrast medium propagation in virtual vascular interventional radiology

In this paper, we propose a smoothed particle hydrodynamics (SPH) based method to simulate the interactions between contrast medium and vessel wall in virtual vascular interventional radiology. SPH is mainly used to simulate free-surface such as water waves, less application in physiological fluids. Now we employ the method for contrast medium flowing in 3D vasculatures simulation by deriving the force density fields from Navier-Stokes equation. To achieve more realistic velocity distribution in vessels, we model a force term produced by the vascular centerline as driving force. Simulation results show that our model fits for the real status of contrast medium propagating in vessels.
