Flow Control Techniques for Multicast Communication in Distributed Multimedia Applications
Aruna Prasad Seneviratne, Athula Ginige · 1992
Distributed multimedia applications involve one-to-many and many-to-many communications. The most efficient method of providing this type of communications is to use multicasting, rather than unicasting. The issues associated with end-to-end flow control in this type of environment have not been addressed to-date. In this paper we first identify the requirements of an end-to-end flow control scheme for a multicast communication system. Then a protocol suitable for providing flow control in a multicast environment is presented. The operation of the protocol is described and the advantages of the proposed scheme is highlighted.
