Evaluation for recognition towards unspoken vocabulary using facial EMG

Sharie Crooke, Deandrea Colanero · 2013

In this paper, a novel technique of common vocabulary terms employed during the process of speech without producing audio signals using facial EMG is discussed. The features were extracted from raw EMG signals of four important facial muscles using root mean square values bot in male and female during the process of speech production. Furthermore, the fast Fourier transform was used to validate this hypothesis and verify the results obtained. From these results, we indentidied the muscle which is the most active and useful in the speech production. This paper aims to present an effective mechanism evaluation to measure the relative activity of the facial muscles related to speech production for person's suffering from speech-related disabilities, which will be very helpful in designing speech prosthesis.
