A dynamic model for multiple microcomputer applications
B. Malm · 1983
Mathematically based tools for designing real-time multiprocessor systems are presented. One of the practical design tools presented is a concurrent mutiprocess system (CMS) model that allows one to model and evaluate application algorithms on multiprocessor architectures within a distributed operating system. The CMS model provides an integrated view of the system by combining an application algorithm, operating system, and architecture into a unified model. The tasks associated with activating, allocating, executing, and coordinating a process in a multiprocess environment are all integrated into the CMS model. The solution of the CMS model produces state and performance information that provides a basis for an interactive design methodology, which produces system designs that meet original specifications without investing in premature hardware. Several theorems are presented giving the CMS model a strong mathematical basis.
