Paper quality control usually relies on both online Quality Control Systems (QCS) and/or laboratory test instruments. QCS systems require quite high capital investments and also dedicated service technicians. Laboratory test instruments also require manual sample processing and will measure a very limited sample of the full production. In this article we discuss some of the new paper instruments used in the papermachine room, which have reasonably low capital and user costs. They utilise the latest technologies - fast signal processing inside sensing heads and wireless data transfer between measurement sensing heads and PC computers.
