Meredith MacAulay · 1976
Engineering has been defined as the art of exploiting the findings of science to the advantage of society. Digital device technology has within a decade, revolutionised the practice of engineering and become an essential tool of science, business and government. Basically, digital hardware is employed whenever and wherever it offers economic advantage. The applications of digital hardware today are made with today's costs in mind. Tomorrow's applications will be based on tomorrow's costs. Thus an understanding of cost trends in digital hardware is fundamental to a discussion of applications.
