Modern synthetic insecticides have saved millions of human lives by killing plant and human disease-causing insects and thus undoubtedly increasing food supplies. But due to recalcitrant nature, they pose danger to animal, bird and human health by causing immunosuppression, recurrent infection, poisoning and cancer. In the present study, immunotoxic effects of propoxur on avian lymphocytes were evaluated by lymphocyte proliferation assay (LPA) by exposing the cells to thousand times diluted No Observable Effect Level (NOEL/103). Significant decrease in both B and T-cell blastogenesis was observed, exhibiting the immunosuppressive effect of propoxur even at sub lethal dose.
