An interactive virtualization of real environments
Robert Geist, Chakrit Watcharopas · 2004
An interactive system for rapid prototyping of a virtual replica from a real, existing environment is described. The system provides users with a quick construction of a convincing virtual environment generated from a set of unorganized points and a photograph. We introduce our fast, memory efficient algorithm for surface reconstruction from a point cloud. In addition, a simple technique is suggested to extract surface appearances from a photograph taken from the real environment. We also present results from our techniques as well as results from our interactive system.
