The new and recently developed group delay function has been introduced in power spectrum estimation. The performance of this recently developed technique is studied from the view point of resolution. The results obtained are compared with the well-established linear methods, namely, periodogram method, Blackman-Tukey method etc. and the nonlinear methods, such as maximum entropy method (MEM), maximum likelihood method (MLM), Yule-Walker method (YWM) and autoregresslve moving average (ARMA) power density estimation. The data model used consists of two sinusoidal signals of equal amplitudes, embedded in white Gaussian noise. The performance of all the spectral estimation methods considered has been studied for different data lengths and signal-to-noise ratios (SNRS).
