IMPROVE THE SAFETY OF MAINTENANCE WORK ON THE RAILWAY USING COMPUTER

The Autonomous Decentralized Transport Operation Control System (ATOS) was developed for modernization of traffic management and operations and maintenance work for the railway network in the Tokyo metropolitan area. However, with costly failsafe architecture and computerized networks built in, it is very difficult to introduce the ATOS into all but major Tokyo rail lines. Therefore, a new system was developed to support safety of maintenance workers for conventional lines. This paper explains the outline and function of this new system which uses existing centralized traffic control system equipment, thereby maintaining high safety while reducing acquisition costs.
