Orthogonal Transform Coding for TV Signals

Binary coded television signals require high transmission rates if no loss of quality is permissible in comparison with analog transmission. An important class of coding scheme that use the spatial correlation of picture elements (Pels.) in reducing data redundancy is the transform coding techniques. A review of the field of transform image coding is presented for data compression with the comsideration of dimensionality and optimality criteria.
