Design and Simulation of a Differential MSK Receiver

W Zhang, T Bullen, RJ Staker, IS Morrison, J.A. Asenstorfer · 1988

A differentially coherent MSK demodulator with nonredundant error correction decoder has been developed at the SAIT for use with the MOS-1 resource satellite. As part of system design, computer simulation was extensively used. This paper describes the design and computer simulations carried out. Simulation results for various parameters and alternative configurations such as delay error, pre-detection filter effect, decoders (soft and hard decision Viterbi, majority logic), Doppler effect, hard limiting effect and so on are presented. Measurements from the actual demodulator implementation are then compared with the simulations.
