Notational Future Shock: A Performer Looks at Contemporary Music

The emergence of fresh notations in contemporary music is discussed, criticising their unintelligible and inarticulate nature. It is suggested that composers wish to control the production of music by introducing novel notations, but they should be limited and performers allowed to interpret basic notations in a creative manner.
