Overcoming Protocol and Operating System Limitations for High Performance Networks

Some problems associated with using current generation operating systems and transport protocols to support a multimedia workstation are presented. Some of the solutions to these problems are discussed. The facilities provided by a new generation protocol, Express Transfer Protocol, are contrasted with those of Transmission Control Protocol.
