Filtering and Blocking of Copyright Infringement Works - A European Perspective

For several years, the entertainment industry has been combating file sharing through peer-to-peer networks such as the popular Swedish website and service “The Pirate Bay”. This has, however, not been an efficient strategy for stopping illegal file sharing. Therefore, in the past few years, the entertainment industry has turned to network operators and Internet service providers to implement blockades of file sharing websites and also filter systems of illegal files shared through operators or social media networks and platforms. Copyright holders are often discussing issues related to blocking or filtering of copyrighted material and also the taking down and obligation to ensure the copyrighted material to stay down.
