Impulse noise in images
Vladimir S. Crnojevic, Željen Trpovski · Info M · 2004
Impulse noise presents a multiplicity of random processes, resulting in basically the same image degradation: only a portion of the image pixels are corrupted by noise and their luminance value is significantly different from the background. The origin of impulse noise can be in analog systems, as well as in digital systems for image acquisition, transmission and processing. The nature of impulse noise can be different: lightning industrial machines, CCD sensor noise, A/D conversion error, decoding error in digital image transmission, etc. The distributions of the impulse noise can be variable, but its appearance is always the same - light and dark speckles in the image. Therefore, the common name for this type of noise is salt and pepper.
