The project deals with the conceptualization, development and production of a robotic system. This robotic system consists of three mobile vehicles and a monitoring terminal. The three mobile robots are equipped with computing, navigation, sensing, and multiple communication capabilities. The monitoring terminal is designed as a stand-alone unit which monitors and interacts with the robot network. The intent is to provide a convenient and reconfigurable hardware platform, which can be used for the development and demonstration of various communication, control, and navigation algorithms for autonomous, co-operative robotic systems. The project work includes robot architecture development, electronic circuit design, various hardware components, circuit board layout, software development, and testing.A toy tank is customized as the robot chassis.Hardware components fitted onto the tank chassis consist of optical and radio communication units, processing unit, optical position sensing system and GPS geo-location receiver. All phases of the development cycle of the robotic system are presented.
