Understanding the Exploration of Design Space in Remix Networks

Online open innovation communities incorporate different systems and technologies in order to harness collective intelligence. Many of these communities have adopted a system that encourages users to contribute their wisdom through remixing, a process that generates new versions from a project’s original state by making additions or deletions. We report on how participants in two remix communities explore the design space of a collective task through the remixing process. With a better understanding of this exploration, it might be possible to find ways to catalyze creativity.
