As wireless networks play a demanding role inmodern-day communication, it has become essential toprovide secure communication between a sender and areceiver. Wireless networks provide a convenient and easymode of communication compared to wired communicationnetworks. Unlike traditional security solutions on theapplication and presentation layers, this paper focuses onphysical layer characteristics for achieving security in wirelessnetworks. The main reason for studying security for physicallayers is the emergence of ad hoc and decentralized networks,in which encryption techniques are difficult to use andimplement. The main aim of this paper is to explore ways ofproviding keyless security solutions for wirelesscommunication networks based on physical layer properties. This paper provides a literature survey on state-of-the-artphysical layer security. At the end of the paper we explainfuture work in physical layer security in wireless networks.
