The Compression of Positioning lnformation for Intelligent Highway Vehicle Systems
C R Drane, Craig A. Scott · International Symposium on Information Theory and its Applications · 1994
Two enabling technologies for Intelligent Vehicle Highway Systems are mobile communications and positioning. The technology to implement the various forms of communication exists but the vast quantities of positioning information transmitted to and from mobile vehicles will place a large demand upon the already burdened RF spectrum. Effective data compression is the key to satisfying the communication needs of lntelligent Vehicle Highway systems with minimal cost. This paper presents results on the source information rate of positioning systems. It then contrasts the performance of different position compression schemes.
