Three integrated systems provide supervisory control

W.D. Allen · Pipe line industry · 1976

The Trans-Alaska pipeline has a series of integrated supervisory control systems which will provide a level of supervision and security unsurpassed in sophistication by any system in existence. The control and monitoring of such a pipeline must be of primary importance. The objectives of control are threefold: security of operation, efficiency of operation, and data collection for accounting and historical record keeping. In 1969, Harris Controls was selected by Alyeska Pipeline Service Co. to design and implement the supervisory control system for the pipeline. The three interconnected systems, Backbone Supervisory System, Auxiliary Supervisory System, and the Terminal Computer System, are described. (MCW)
