The Design and Use of Software for Real Time Telemetry Displays

AB Giles · 1992

Modern low cost computers have allowed a revolution in the power and ease with which sophisticated telemetry displays can be produced. This paper describes some of the concepts used and facilities provided for a suite of programs supplied to the X-ray Astronomy Group at the Physics Department of the University of Tasmania. Features include uplink commanding, downlink full rate telemetry display and reduced data rate handling via a Telecom land line from a downrange ground station. The hardware was interfaced to mobile telemetry stations operated by the high altitude balloon group of the French National Space Agency (CNES).
