Building a Connection for Guaranteed Throughput with Low Initial Latency in Network-on-Chips

In NoC (network-on-chips), there are two kinds of communication services: BE (best-effort) and GT (guaranteed throughput) services. For the GT service, there are several kinds of implementation. One of them is Connectionoriented, or TDM-based, scheme which can meet tight throughput restriction because no contention occurs in the reserved circuits. To setup the circuits, however, relatively long initial latency is taken. In this paper, a new GT-BE combined router architecture to build GT connections with low initial latency is suggested. By the proposed method, System packets are handled with higher priority service level to reduce the initial latency for building a connection. Such GT services are implemented with credit-based wormhole BE router.
