Implementing Data Flow Concurrency through a Priority Data Flow Scheduler
David G. Taylor · 1999
A Real Time Executive commonly implements multitasking through providing for multiple threads of program control. This document describes non preemptive dataflow scheduling as an intuitively simpler alternative to the non preemptive threaded multitasking. It is shown that the dataflow approach alleviates the need for explicit task synchronisation primitives such as semaphores. The author describes his own Prority Data Flow Scheduler (PDFS), and shows how the scheduler can be used to implement the ISO 7776 LAPB protocol, as a design example.
