DEBLOCKING AND EMBEDDED CODING IN IMAGE COMMUNICATION SYSTEMS

This dissertation addresses two problems in image communication systems.The first problem is blocking effects reduction and the second problem is embedded coding.The problem of blocking effects reduction is in any image compression processes which use block discrete cosine transform (BDCT) It has been a great experience for me to be a student of Professor William G. Wee.I am very grateful for his guidance, encouragement, and his patience and kindness during this period of time.I have benefited very much from his broad knowledge, his research style, his constructive ways of thinking and optimistic spirits.
