Design of the Medical Knowledge-Based System using Fuzzy Relational Method

Current medical knowledge-based systems contain many limitations that have to be dealt with before the systems can be used routinely in medical work. Particularly, they almost exclusively work in a single domain of body system to diagnose the patients diseases in order to overcome the combinatorial problem that arises from the complexity of having multiple domains. Also, their medical knowledge base is so unstructured or at best poorly structured that making a diagnosis for a patient may not be considered a trivial task. This paper proposes a system that uses the concepts of a hierarchy of diagnostic levels and syndromes in the process of diagnostic inference in order to overcome these intrinsic shortcomings of medical knowledge-based systems. Each level of hierarchy contains a complete structure and the hierarchy subdivides the whole activity of diagnostic process into several level-based activities. This paper also presents the results of a pilot study done on the prototype of a proposed system to verify the reliability of the system.
