When you're trying to choose from a selection of sandwich fillings at a lunch canteen or trying to decide which shirt will best match a pair of pants, you're dealing with combinations. Defined simply, the topic of combinations involves the selection and arrangement of objects in a finite et where the order of election does not matter (Jacobs 1982).
