Intra Prediction Mode Skip Coding of Video

Intra coding of H.264/AVC standard achieves high coding efficiency by predictive coding using directional prediction modes. However, the intra coding has additional bits such as intra prediction mode information. Especially, as resolution of video sequence is higher, the amounts of intra prediction mode information increase. Therefore, a new intra coding scheme related to intra prediction mode is proposed in this paper. The proposed scheme selectively eliminates the intra prediction mode bits by using decoder-side matching. If the decoder can estimate the mode selected by the encoder, it does not need to transmit the mode information.
