Height Estimation for Applications in Surveillance Systems

Jaeseok Shim, Yujin Lim · IETE Technical Review · 2015

In some surveillance system, it is important to detect undesired intrusion in a monitored space. However, all detected objects are not intruders. In order to reduce the false alarms, it is needed to determine if the detected object is human. Thus, we propose a mechanism to estimate the height of the detected object. If the estimated height is in the height range for normal adults, an alarm is given to a control centre in our surveillance system. Through experimental analysis, the estimation accuracy of the proposed mechanism is verified in various environments.
