Image Denoising Using Adaptive Smoothing Based on Discontinuity Measures

Image denoising has been the center of quality enhancement for decades and now is considered essential in providing super resolution images. In this paper we introduce an adaptive smoothing method for image denoising using two discontinuity measures. The proposed method iteratively convolutes the input image using a 3 × 3 smoothing mask which is weighted by a coefficient that combines the two discontinuity measures at each pixel.
