A Selective Multilevel Successive Elimination Algorithm for Block Matching Motion Estimation

This correspondence presents a fast full search algorithm for motion estimation ?- a selective multilevel successive elimination algorithm (SMSE). Our proposed algorithm is based on the several previous ideas including SEA, MSEA and so on. Those algorithms which originate from block matching algorithm (BMA) suggest the efficient method to find the appropriate motion vector rapidly. The basic idea is to skip dividing into smaller sub-blocks in fine granularity successive elimination algorithm (FGSE) if being redundant and keep searching whether candidate block is possible to give off the minimum matching error. Comparative experiments show the substantial improvement of the performance over the FGSE and MSEA.
