Electronic weather effects generation

The digital video equipment currently available can be divided into two main classes: electronic graphics where a computer generated image is operated upon by complex software algorithms to produce a final non-realtime image; and digital video effects where geometric and translational transformations are applied to an input image on an interframe basis. It became clear that by drawing upon and combining techniques employed in the two types of equipment it is possible to produce real time image origination equipment for specific applications. The paper discusses how this idea can be developed into a coherent design approach. It has also emerged from the ensuing discussions that the same basic ideas, coupled with advances in graphic processor technology, can be applied to other post-production applications. >
