Application of TAGUCHI Method to Design of an Intelligent Thermostat

D Willison, C. Downing · 1990

This paper will discuss the application of the TAGUCHI method of quality control to various aspects of the design of an intelligent thermostat. The thermostat was designed to control the functions of mobile air conditioning equipment. It is a microprocessor based system using analog to digital conversion to read in temperature information from a transducer, with switched outputs which can be used for direct control or as inputs for a system. The exact functioning of the thermostat is determined by the microprocessor programming. The major principles of TAGUCHI's approach will be discussed and applied. That is the definition of quality and the loss function.
