Practical Use of a New Track Control System, TOSMA

Aiming the full use of data in the new track maintenance system, RMDA (Relational and integrated DAtabase system for Shinkansen), which is composed as a distributed computer system and connected to the SMIS (Shinkansen Management Information System), the developments and trial application of a new track data processing system, TOSMA (Tokaido Shinkansen track MAnagement system), had been proceeded during three years from 1994 to 1996. Integrating such experiences, it was set at all the track maintenance depots of Tokaido Shinkansen in 1997 and is now at the stage of practical use. The final version of the system, main technical features of it, the opinions in depots and the expectation in future are presented.
