Exploring Relationship Between Social ICT Issues And Academic Research Interests Through Text Mining Analysis

This study explored and compared reporting topics and trends related to mobile communications environment between electronic newspaper and research articles in South Korea. We collected 18,349 e-newspaper articles and 4,666 research articles that related to mobile communications environment during 2010/01/01 to 2013/12/31 period. Text mining with R software was performed to explore the patterns of reporting topics and trends in the articles content. Results of frequency, cluster and social networks analysis showed that there are differences in reporting topics and trends between two kinds of articles. In the socio-technical perspective, both newspaper and research articles showed a bias in technical aspects but the patterns are different. These research results were discussed and recommended for future implementation.
