The Application Development of User Programmable Microelectronic Systems in Educational Environments
M. Widardjo, S. Soegijoko · 1991
This paper describes the application development of user programmable microelectronic systems suitable for educational purposes and small industry, as an alternative solution to custom ASICs. To provide an optimal use of the available resources, low initial cost, simple and fast dissemination of this method, the use of Microcomputer-based Electronic Design Station (MEDS) based on IBM PC or compatibles, has been emphasized. A combined software programmable single-chip microcomputer and hardware programmable Logic Cell Array-based system is being developed to produce a system prototype. The software stored in most part of the single-chip microcomputer defines the main functional application of the system and the data configuration that determined the function of the Logic Cell Array. It has been found that further advantages for a specific application can be obtained with the combined system.
