This paper proposes a multi-server architecture that uses a Logical Key Hierarchy (LKH) for group key management and dynamic split and merge of servers to handle large groups efficiently. When the user pool is large, the proposed system dynamically splits its traffic into multiple groups, each served by a dedicated server, and merges the traffic when the user pool is small in order to minimize the rekeying cost of the system (Kin-Ching and Gary, 2002). The performance of the proposed approach is compared with that of the single server case. The results show that the multi-server architecture scales well, as compared with the traditional single server approaches.
