A Usability Study of an Assistive Touch Voice Interface based Automated Teller Machine (ATM)

Sara Muneeb, Mustafa Naseem, Suleman Shahid · 2015

Automated Teller Machines (ATMs) have become increasingly common in urban areas of the developing world. In Pakistan, low-literate users who previously did not have access to traditional banking services have now been issued ATM cards for direct-cash transfers by the government, and separately by mobile banking providers as well. However, current traditional ATM user interfaces are text heavy and are not designed for use by low and non-literate users. In this paper, we propose and evaluate an assistive touch voice interface that allows low-literate and non-literate users to make basic transactions such as cash withdrawal, fund transfer and balance inquiry at ATMs using traditional text-based interfaces.
