CS1: where is visual basic?

James K. Harris · Journal of computing sciences in colleges · 2001

This paper attempts to study the dichotomy that exists between the acceptance of Visual Basic in the programming community and rejection of Visual Basic in the academic community. The study looks at the position of Visual Basic the academic and business communities and looks at the factors leading to the reluctance of academia to accept Visual Basic as a viable language for CS1 and CS2 classes and gives arguments as to why it should be considered.
