To many people with little or no knowledge of science, physics appears to be a remote and formal subject, littered with numbers and equations, in contrast to the biological sciences where one can experience the visible beauty of unusual plants and animals. But is that really so? I think not. Indeed, as physicist and artist Tim Wetherell wrote: 'The beauty of science is that it uncovers the basic notes from which nature creates the symphony of the universe - and by that measure, no science is more beautiful than physics'.
