This paper derives a better adaptive multicast transmission strategy between point-to-point (PtP) and point-to-multipoint (PtM) radio transmission for various antenna con-figurations. We address three multicast methods, PtM, PtP with round-robin scheduling, and PtP with opportunistic scheduling, and then derive the throughput of the methods when multiple antennas are employed. It is observed that the best choice of multicast transmission strategy depends not only on the number of users in the multicast group but also on the SNR and spatial diversity order provided by the system.
