DETECTION OF PEDESTRIANS USING VIDEO. PART 1. PILOT STUDY
S Edholm, E Oscarsson, Ivar Gustavsson · 1981
The aim of this project is to investigate if the green light period in vehicle actuated signals could be more fairly distributed between vehicles and pedestrians if pedestrian detectors were available. The detectors used today generally indicate that there is somebody who wants to cross the street but not how many. In order to count the pedestrians at the crossing a video camera was used. The results are promising even though there still are some problems with shadows and different lighting conditions. See also TRIS 380059. (TRRL)
