Program slicing: A computer aided programming technique

Peter Kilpatrick, Danny Crookes, M. Owens · Research Portal (Queen's University Belfast) · 1988

Program Slicing is a new approach to developing and maintaining programs as a set of slices, in which each slice processes the problem with respect to a small number of attributes (ideally, just one). One of the main benefits of program slicing is that the method can be computer-assisted by a sophisticated structured editor which maintains a program as a set of separate slices, and presents this view of a program to the user during editing (and perhaps even during program execution for debugging purposes). Such an interactive development environment is currently being designed for applying program slicing to the construction of programs. One application of such a system will be to reinforce a disciplined information-hiding approach to program development.
