Silo Design: Current and Future
AG McLean · Conference on Agricultural Engineering 1988: An Australasian Conference to Celebrate the Australian Bicentennial; Preprints of Papers · 1988
This paper first presents some common silo design problems and faults. These problems can be avoided by adopting good design practices some details of which are presented. To appreciate future silo and storage system design the imposed design specifications and operation requirements are presented and discussed. These requirements reveal that good silo design is paramount to achieve effective total system design and to minimize total storage cost. To this end the need for codes of practice on Silo Construction, Erection, Inspection, Acceptance and Problem Solution Procedures and Operation and Maintenance is made evident. Finally some future storage system design and design features are presented.
