Geometry of Transformations: Teacher and Unit Under Construction

Have you ever abandoned the textbook to try new activities? What happened to your teaching practice and your beliefs about teaching and learning as a result? This article describes the story of how I created a new geometry unit related to transformations for my prealgebra and general mathematics classes and why I continually reflected upon and refined the unit each time that I used it. The process of change–for me and also for the unit–has been a gradual one. I changed my teaching by small steps rather than by leaps and bounds.
