Tracking a Maneuvering Target Using MMSE Filter

A tracking filter incurs mean tracking errors in the presence of pilot-induced target maneuver. Chan, Hu and Plant proposed a solution to this problem which uses the mean deviations of the residual innovation sequence to make corrections to the Kalman filter. A common problem in the design of a Kalman filter in the problem of unknown target maneuvers. A Kalman filter that is designed around straight line target motion will not perform well is the presence of a sustained target maneuver. We proposed a variation of the minimum mean-square error(MMSE) adaptive Kalman filter, similar to Chan, Hu and Plant, and extend their work by using a priori data, a different measurement basis, and a different state vector.
