An introduction to the paper by Sampigethaya and Poovendran AS urvey on Mix Networks and Their Secure Applications

Jim Esch · 2006

Privacy, confidentiality, and the protection of personal data is a huge concern in network communications. Many applications need to guard against unauthorized access and from the ability to link personal data with individual users. While cryptographic encryption can be used as protection from unauthorized access, protection from linkability must be achieved by ensuring the anonymity or untraceability of communication. Secure electronic voting provides a case in point. A voter’s encrypted electronic vote should be untraceable, thus preserving the voter’s privacy.
