Servicecost modeling and costcomparative study
Øyvind Moe · 2007
Today, network operators are underhighpressure frommarketcompetition andhence, theyaretrying constantly to increase their revenue andtoreducetheircost.Operational Expenditures (OpEx)are therefore gaining attention, since they highlyimpacttheoverall costofthenetwork. OpEx can be divided into(i)networkoperation related OpExand(ii) service handling related OpEx.Thispaper investigates theinfluence of services on OpEx,focusing on Ethernetservices in future networkarchitectures. Control andmanagementcapabilities of different networkplatforms, whichwillbeusedfortheservice production, willimpacttheservice costs(i.e. the more capabilities, thelessexpensive theyshouldbe). Thispaper shows thecostdifferences when establishing and releasing future Ethernet services usingdifferent platforms fordifferent typesof services (i.e. point-to-point, point-to-multipoint or multipoint-to- multipoint).
