A Signaling and Control Architecture for Mobility Support in Wireless
R. YiianT, Subir Kumar Biswas · 1996
This paper presents a signaling and control architecture for mobility support in a “wireless ATM” network thai provides integrated broadband seriiices to mobile terminals. ATM szgn, alzng and wzreless control capabilities required for iriobilzty servzces are dzscussed, and prelzminary solutions are given, for selected major functions. Potential extenszons lo standard Q.2931 ATM szgnaling are proposed do support mobilaty related functions such as handoff and service parameter/QOS renegotiation. A custom wareless control protocol for supporting termznal migration, resource allocataon, handoff, etc. zs outlined for a wareless ATM nefwork. Preliminary experzmental results validatzng the proposed handoff control protocol on an ATM network testbed are briefly outlined.
