Inthispaper, wedescribe anewapproach toface imagecoding usingGaborWavelet Networks (GWN).Thistype ofnetwork yields goodresults inmanysignal coding applications andwasalready usedforfacerepresentation byKruger in2001. Themainideaistoapproximate thefaceimage, considered as atwodimensional function, withasetofGaborwavelets. We describe animproved networktraining technique, whichuses several faceimagesofthesamepersonrather thana single one.Thistechnique yields themodelofthefaceimage, butalso statistical criteria defining thesignificance ofeachGaborwavelet inthis model.
